Just east of Chilliwack is a turn-off that will take you from highway driving to lush forest and waterfall magic-ness in just 15 minutes of walking trail. Bridal Falls is just off highway one and is a popular picnic spot for travelers, but also makes a nice day trip to escape the city.
Just near the parking lot are a number of picnic tables that run along a babbling creek. The trail towards the waterfall runs along the creek, and is about a 15 minute walk one way. It is not a hike or a trek, but simply a really nice walk in B.C.’s lovely temperate rainforest. It felt refreshing to look around and see ferns in every direction and several different types of moss covering everything.
The waterfall is nearly 200ft tall, and tumbles down to an eroded jumble of rocks and tree roots. The lookout point is near the bottom of the waterfall, and the view of the water rushing down is mesmerizing.
The trail back to the parking lot loops back and is equally enchanting. We saw a big snail and many more ferns and moss. The walk was rejuvenating and a great excuse to escape the city with a short road trip.
